I often encounter questions as how to insert a video from YouTube to the new PowerPoint 2013, so we do not need to run a web browser. Inserting online video, although it seems like a simple thing, because on the Insert tab there is an icon Video\u00a0> Online Video<\/strong>. But the redirects\u00a0us to embed the video located on SkyDrive from Microsoft and other services. The way\u00a0to insert YouTube videos is there, but it will not be just one click. That is why I have prepared this guide which will show you how. It can be equally applied to a PowerPoint, 2010. Please note, that in future PowerPoint updates this quide may be no more\u00a0necessary.<\/em><\/p>\n

Activating the Developer tab<\/h2>\n

We create a new presentation. On the\u00a0slide\u00a0we insert an element to view videos from YouTube, which is the\u00a0object in the Adobe Flash<\/em> format. For inserting that we need the Developer<\/strong> tab, which is hidden by default. Therefore, we need to\u00a0activate it. The procedure is:<\/p>\n

  1. Click on the File tab<\/li>\n
  2. Select Options<\/li>\n
  3. Select Customize the Ribbon on the left side<\/li>\n
  4. On the ride side check the Developer tab<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Insert ActiveX control<\/h2>\n

    After activation of the\u00a0Developer tab<\/em> click\u00a0on it and press the icon with “tools” – More controls<\/em>. Among the list of items is one that can play animation .SWF<\/strong> (Shockwave Flash Object<\/em>), that is\u00a0our video from YouTube.<\/p>\n

    After selecting\u00a0Shockwave Flash Object<\/em>\u00a0we draw it into the slide by holding and moving the left mouse button, the same way such as drawing shapes.<\/p>\n

    Setting YouTube video<\/h2>\n

    In the slide there\u00a0is now the object waiting for\u00a0adjustment to know what to play. Therefore right click it to see the menu and find the option Properties<\/strong>. In the list of attributes is one called Movie<\/em>. Into the Movie\u00a0<\/em>field we need\u00a0to insert YouTube video address you want to play. In our example, we use the link to the video of\u00a0PowerPoint tutorial\u00a0http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LT0gOyIOlAU<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    ATTENTION:<\/span> It is still necessary to edit\u00a0this address so that movie can be played. Please edit your video in Movie<\/em>\u00a0field so that it will look like this\u00a0http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/LT0gOyIOlAU. So, delete the word “watch?”, “v” put between slashes and leave only video code (without the equal sign). Then, the video will work\u00a0in a slideshow view<\/strong>\u00a0(activate by pressing F5) with\u00a0a player toolbar as on the YouTube website.<\/p>\n
